2011–2015: Doo Technologies’ own 360° video camera, stitched and streamed live without a GPU, proven at the Sandance concerts and extended to the whole resort in 360°.
Live 360° video, before 360° cameras existed
Designed for vehicles, proven on a concert stage.
In 2011 Doo Technologies had developed its own 360° video camera and software for vehicle and security applications. To validate continuous cyclic recording before approaching the security market, the system was deployed at Sandance, the beach concert series of Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. The door was opened by the H2 mobile surveillance vehicle, presented to the Atlantis team as a demonstration of what the technology could do.
The proof of concept became a long-term customer relationship: a full season of live shows from autumn 2011 through 2012, new capture systems tested on site, the complete resort documented in 360° in 2013, and aerial 360° video in 2015.

A camera designed for vehicles
Two 1.3-megapixel sensors, each fitted with a Sunex fisheye lens, delivered a 2000×1000 dual-fisheye video at 30 frames per second in RGB24. USB 2.0 set the resolution limit, but also brought what vehicle integration required: 5-volt power and a compact footprint.

Real-time processing on a CPU
A single laptop synchronised the audio input, stitched the two fisheye streams into an equirectangular 360° image, recorded locally with cyclic recording and streamed the result over RTSP, simultaneously and without a GPU. The same core software and process served the vehicle and security systems.
All in real time, on one laptop, without a GPU.
On stage, in the middle of the show
The compact camera could be placed where no camera operator could stand: on the DJ booth, between the decks, beside the microphone. Two of the 360° recordings remain online and can be explored directly below.

A living laboratory
Atlantis became the test site for new capture systems. On New Year’s Eve 2011, a rugged 360° time-lapse camera recorded the event site from morning set-up to the midnight fireworks.
New Year's Eve 2011, Atlantis The Palm: 360° time-lapse.
The complete resort in 360°
More than 200 rooms and locations were captured with a Nikon D300s and Nikkor fisheye, four shots, one every 90°, and stitched with Doo Technologies’ own software at 8000×4000. The panoramas were published on the Atlantis website and remain on Google Street View, where individual views have been seen millions of times.
Aerial 360°
A 360° camera rig on a drone added an aerial perspective, flown in 2015 before drone regulation took effect.
From Atlantis The Palm
Stephane had camera equipment to capture 360 videos and created a world first for implementing on YouTube. He built one of the first 360 time-lapse purpose built cameras that could be deployed for long period in the harsh conditions of the UAE weather. Working with Stephane was always fun, but he was always professional as he continued to surprise and delight with his innovations and technical knowledge to create some amazing work and deliver on time.
He gets the job done! Easy to work with and shares his knowledge and ideas even outside the scope of business. Very approachable, reasonable in terms of pricing and always willing to offer his service even on last minute requests.
From proof of concept to customer
Consumer 360° cameras now stitch and stream on their own. In 2011, Doo Technologies designed the camera, the stitching, the audio synchronisation and the live streaming itself, and validated them in a demanding live environment that turned into a long-term client.
